LunarCrush, a company specializing in social intelligence for the cryptocurrency ecosystem, has announced its intention to send a treasure chest of 62 bitcoins (BTC), which is currently valued at approximately $1.76 million, to the moon.
The bitcoin reward, dubbed Nakamoto_1, will be paid out to the first space traveler to reach the moon and get hold of the private key to a cryptocurrency wallet engraved on the MAPP Rover lunar outpost, which will be launched into space later this year.
To do this, LunarCrush has partnered with Lunar Outpost, animation studio Golden Wolf, and Hiro, which is financing the project through the sale of the NFT collection. According to the firm, the ultimate goal is to “inspire the next generation to interplanetary exploration.”
The process of engraving the private key attached to the rover will be fully documented to ensure full transparency. As soon as the Lunar Outpost MAPP rover lands on the Moon, a plan will begin on Earth to land on it and search for the key.
When you set yourself a seemingly unattainable goal, innovation can be incredible,” said LunarCrush CEO Joe Vezzani. “Our goal is to inspire people to create communities that will usher in a new era of exploration.
The bitcoin prize will be delivered to the planet by a SpaceX rocket in the fourth quarter of this year, but the exact date has not been disclosed for security reasons.
