“Why bitcoin? Ordinals’ digital artifacts exist on-chain, never off-chain, and are completely immutable. Add in the security aspect of BTC, the decentralization of its nodes, and you have the perfect home for true digital collectibles,” the statement reads.
The partners of the platform for providing payments in the first cryptocurrency are the operators of non-custodial wallets Hiro and Xverse.
Magic Eden noted that with the launch of the secondary market for bitcoin-NFTs, they faced high demand for a solution to create them.
“We are thinking about the best approach to this and will share more information in the future,” the project team said.
The developers reported that they could not solve the problem of charging royalties “in this new ecosystem, where there are very few tools and there are no safe and reliable solutions.” For this reason, they launched a market for Ordinals with no obligatory royalties to authors.
Initially based on the Solana blockchain, the marketplace also plans to add support for Ethereum.
Recall that in June 2022, Magic Eden raised $130 million in a $1.6 billion Series B funding round.
