The Thai authorities issued arrest warrants for four immigration officers who kidnapped a Chinese citizen and his translator and forced them to transfer 30,000 USDT stablecoins.
This became known on March 10, when a local resident who worked as a translator for a Chinese businessman contacted the police. According to Surachate Hakparn, Deputy Chief of the National Immigration Police, a Chinese businessman approached an interpreter to help him renew his passport and visa in Bangkok, but the agency rejected his application.
After the failure, the Chinese citizen, together with the interpreter, went home, where five men were already waiting for them. They loaded the victims into a car, drove away from the house and began to threaten, demanding money. A resident of the Celestial Empire had to turn to his son in China, who sent 30,000 USDT to the extortionists through the imToken wallet.
During the investigation, it was found that four immigration police officers were involved in the attack. An arrest warrant was issued in their names. The Chinese returned home.
Earlier, three residents of Omsk were sentenced to terms ranging from 6.5 to 9 years in prison for a robbery attack on a local resident, during which they stole 84 million rubles in cryptocurrencies.
