Blockchain thug who stole Ethereum (ETH) from more than 10,000 people has awakened from a six-year hibernation and transferred coins to other wallets.
From 2015 to 2016, an attacker dubbed the Blockchain Bandit hacked into thousands of crypto vaults with weakly protected private keys and took 51,000 ETH worth $82.6 million at the current exchange rate. One of the victims of the criminal lost a fortune – 45,000 ETH worth $ 72.6 million.
After successful attacks, the hacker lay low, but recently employees of the analytical company Chainalysis recorded the movement of stolen digital assets. According to them, the attacker transferred 51,000 ETH and 470 bitcoins to the new wallets, which together are worth $90 million.
Experts suggest that the cybercriminal has become more active due to the recent rise in the rate of ETH and BTC. In their opinion, he may try to sell coins if the bullish trend continues in the market.
Chainalysis employees recalled that people who used custodial services that generate simple private keys suffered at the hands of a hacker. To avoid losing virtual currency, they advise to store assets only on reliable platforms or, even better, in hardware wallets.
