The thief of personal information of users of Twitter, banned in Russia, extorts cryptocurrency from the new owner of the social network, Elon Musk.
Cybersecurity company Hudson Rock found a message on the Breached forum about the sale of a database of 400 million Twitter users, including, in particular, email addresses and phone numbers. This archive allegedly even contains information about several famous people, for example, the creator of Ethereum (ETH) Vitalik Buterin and Canadian TV presenter Kevin O’Leary.
The experts did not fully verify the database, but confirmed the correctness of the information about 1000 people posted in the public domain. According to the seller under the nickname Ryushi, the information of users of the social network was stolen in early 2022 due to a vulnerability in the software.
Twitter or Elon Musk, if you’re reading this, you’re already at risk of being fined for leaking over 5.4 million people, imagine how much you’d be fined for leaking information on 400 million users.
To avoid having to pay a $276M fine like Facebook* did (after leaking 533M people), you should negotiate an exclusive sale of this database,” Ryushi said.

Employees of the cybersecurity firm DeFiYield managed to contact Ryushi on Telegram. He still hasn’t sold the database and is looking for a buyer. Nothing has been heard from Musk yet, so it is not known whether he is ready to negotiate with the extortionist.
