Magistrate Sarah Netburn granted the SEC’s request to amend two drafts of Bill Hinman’s 2018 speech.

AT application dated October 21brya 2022 2009, the SEC submitted two proposed revisions that it is trying to incorporate into the documents.
According to the SEC, the two proposed revisions contain a discussion of pending issues related to the agency.
“Pursuant to the court order dated July 12, 2022, the Securities and Exchange Commission respectfully submits for closed review proposed amendments to two drafts of Director Bill Hinman’s June 2018 speech discussing the Commission’s pending decision,” the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a statement.
After reviewing the proposed amendments, Magistrate Netburn granted the SEC’s request to edit two drafts of Hinman’s 2018 speech.
“The plaintiff’s request for permission to make the above amendments has been SUCCESSFUL. SO IT IS ORDERED – Judge Netburn ruled.
Hinman’s participation in Ripple vs. S.E.C. Suit
Hinman was the former director of corporate finance for the SEC under Jay Clayton. He rose to prominence in the cryptocurrency industry after his controversial June 2018 speech declaring Ethereum insecure as the cryptocurrency ledger has become decentralized over the years.
Moments after the SEC accused Ripple of providing unregistered security; The blockchain company demanded that the agency hand over drafts of Hinman’s controversial 2018 speech.
SEC surrenders Hinman documents
However, the SEC was not ready to give up to the point where took significant steps to prevent Ripple from taking over drafts. Interestingly, after spending 18 months fighting six separate court orders, SEC finally handed over documents to Ripple . Internal emails and drafts of Hinman’s speech are still sealed. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse commented on the development, said :
« The SEC wants you to think that it cares about disclosure, transparency, and clarity. Don’t trust them. When the truth eventually comes out, the shamefulness of their behavior here will shock you. ”
Less than two weeks after the filing of the document, the SEC received a desire to edit two drafts.
