Representatives of the cryptocurrency industry condemned the imposition of sanctions against the mixer Tornado Cash for laundering digital assets worth over $ 7 billion.
Ethereum (ETH) developer Preston Van Loon believes that blocking the service is devoid of common sense. In his opinion, Tornado Cash is just a tool that can be used for both bad and good purposes.
Surveillance of everything, control of all. This makes America great. I’m sure the bad guys will stop using Tornado Cash because it’s “illegal”. Likewise, they do not fire illegal weapons, smuggling illegal drugs, or laundering illegal proceeds. Only respectable Americans will suffer from blocking the mixer, said Eric Voorhees, the founder of ShapeShift crypto startup.

For many members of the crypto community, the ban on the use of the mixer means an attempt to destroy the foundation of the decentralized financial system – the privacy of the participants in transactions. Obviously, Tornado Cash makes it difficult to track transfers in digital assets and makes it possible to hide from Big Brother.
Johns Hopkins University professor Matthew Green and founder of the human rights organization Electronic Frontier Foundation Kurt Opsal also spoke in defense of Tornado Cash. Green is confident that in response to the sanctions, mixer employees will create a new smart contract. Therefore, attempts to block the service will not be successful.
