Security analysts reported that the hacker who hacked into the Ronin network transferred around 21,000 Ethereum through the Tornado Cash privacy protocol. They noted that more than $65 million was distributed through the mixer. This amount was withdrawn only in the past week. The cybercriminal organization or hacker, according to experts, will continue to launder money and use this mixer more than once.
Security specialists recorded activity from the main address of the scammers. It is labeled Ronin Bridge Exploiter on the Etherscan transaction tracking service. It became known that the attackers made several transactions on different days. First, they transferred funds to other accounts, and only then sent them to Tornado Cash. According to official data, cybercriminals made 210 transactions of 100 ETH and distributed them in an unknown direction.
Market analysts noted that they could not do anything and it was impossible to track the funds further. The fact is that this protocol increases the confidentiality of transactions by breaking the connection between the source and the destination address. This allows exploiters and hackers to mask their addresses when withdrawing cryptocurrencies from illegally obtained funds.
Representatives of the Ronin network noted that they will continue to do everything possible in order to provide a refund to users who have lost their digital assets.
Earlier, the Crypto.ru editors reported that the creators of the Ronin Network sidechain confirmed that their network was attacked. The cybercriminals managed to get in as they carried out the largest-scale hack in the history of cryptocurrencies. Hackers stole 173.6 thousand Ethereum ($591.5 million) and $25.5 million in USDC.
