Apple is looking for a new legal position related to cryptocurrencies and may be working on crypto projects
Apple has a Senior Legal Counsel with experience in blockchain and digital assets to work with the Apple Pay and Wallet team.
This employee will become part of the New York-based product legal team and will support “identity initiatives for the Apple Pay and Wallet team.”
The employee’s job responsibilities include support and advice on a wide range of issues related to Apple Pay and Wallet.
Employee responsibilities also include feature/technology research and development, licensing, intellectual property, and regulatory and compliance proposals.
The job posting signals Apple’s growing interest in blockchain and digital assets. Rumor has it that the company is working on initiatives related to cryptocurrencies.
Apple is increasingly interested in blockchain technology and metaverses
Last May, Apple announced a job opening related to alternative payments, and the candidate required more than five years of experience in cryptocurrencies.
CEO Tim Cook said that cryptocurrencies are in the company’s interests, but so far he has not disclosed the details of Apple’s activities related to the digital currency industry.
And in September 2019, Apple Pay VP Jennifer Bailey said the company is “watching cryptocurrencies” and firmly believes they have “curious long-term potential.”
In February 2020, the company hired Jeff Bronicowski, a former Head of Technology Innovation at Warner Music who has worked on a number of blockchain projects to create digital assets using a public blockchain called Flow.
The company also hinted that it wants to get into the development of metaverses. Apple has joined several major tech firms, including Microsoft and Meta, in the fight to dominate the Metaverse industry.
Coinbase has already integrated Apple Pay and Google Pay for crypto purchases. Apple Pay has also integrated the MetaMask wallet iOS app. Such actions by Apple greatly help novice investors start trading cryptocurrencies.
