The leader in the production of video games and game consoles SEGA, revealed some details of plans for the future development of the corporation. Over the next five years, the developers will launch the implementation of the “SuperGame” concept, bringing together the various stories and types of released games into a single whole.
As part of the new project, SEGA will use cloud technologies, and will also add social networks with streams and forums discussing game stories.
Company producer Masayoshi Kikuchi hinted at the likely use of NFTs to encourage users to socialize. Unique tokens will also make their way into several games in the SuperGame Universe.
Kikuchi made it clear that the emergence of the “play to earn” (P2E) mechanism can be considered a settled issue, but SEGA will gradually approach the implementation of the NFT strategy so as not to repeat the fate of Ubisoft. A well-known company faced criticism from players and loss of users after the introduction of unique tokens.
A number of analysts believe that the Ronin blockchain hack would make it harder for SEGA to license cryptocurrency games to regulators. Probably, the first P2E games will be released only next year. The SuperGame project resembles the Metaverse, but the company avoids using the word for some reason.
