On April 11, Changpeng Zhao, aka CZ, tweeted out a report on crypto lobbyists that was released to the public on April 8. Zhao commented on the reference to the study, saying, “Looks like we need to do our part…”
Information published by non-profit advocacy group and think tank Public Citizen, based in Washington DC. The key findings of the report are the increase in the number of supporters of cryptocurrencies over the past three years. Cryptocurrency lobbying spending is also reported to have quadrupled from $2.2 million in 2018 to $9 million in 2021.
The largest lobbying spend in the crypto sector came from Coinbase, Ripple Labs, and the Blockchain Association. Each of these companies spent over $2 million between 2018 and 2021.
The US Chamber of Commerce and Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) are also among the major lobbyists. Obviously, seeing such high-profile names, CZ noticed that he wanted to more actively promote the implementation of cryptocurrency:
