The head of the U.S. securities regulator, Gary Gensler, said the agency is weighing how it can expand investor protections for users of crypto exchanges.
Expanded oversight by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will require the agency to register and regulate platforms where trading in securities and tokenized securities is intertwined.
The agency will also work with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to scrutinize platforms that trade both tokenized securities and commodity tokens, Gensler said.
