The US Department of Justice has filed charges against John and Tina Barksdale for securities fraud and the creation of the Ormeus Coin fraudulent cryptocurrency.
According to law enforcement, brother and sister John and Tina Barksdale (John and Tina Barksdale) used false information to promote their cryptocurrency. For example, they reported on the conclusion of a deal for the purchase of mining equipment for $250 million, and also that Ormeus Coin brought $5 million monthly. They were able to receive $124 million from investors.
“John Barksdale implemented a scheme to sell the Ormeus Coin cryptocurrency to investors around the world through a web of lies, he distributed the cryptocurrency through personal roadshows, advertised it on social networks, and even ran ads in Times Square,” the US Department of Justice said in a statement.
The launch of Ormeus Coin took place in June 2017, and by January 2018, the cryptocurrency had reached a capitalization of $52 million. At the moment, the capitalization of Ormeus Coin is only $53,000. John and Tina Barksdale can receive 20 years in prison for each case of Ormeus Coin fraud and up to 5 years for criminal conspiracy.
Recall that the US Department of Justice also charged US residents Duane Golden, Gregory Aggesen and Marquis Demaking Egerton with money laundering and crypto-currency fraud in the amount of $40 million.
