Introduced by cold wallet manufacturer Trezor, the automatic address proof of ownership (AOPP) verification will be removed in a future update. The AOPP mechanism generated signatures that were required in a number of jurisdictions to work with financial companies and funds.
Users of social networks and thematic publics on Reddit criticized the implementation of AOPP, which made it possible to link user data to a specific address with legally irrefutable evidence.
As a rule, AOPP requirements are imposed by states, along with mandatory KYC. In this case, the signature, along with the verification of personal data, will associate the wallet address with a specific person, which is also dangerous if this information is leaked during a hacker attack.
Other cold wallet manufacturers have decided to follow the example of Trezor. The AOPP system will be removed from BlueWallet, Sparrow Wallet and Samourai Wallet.
