Linux creator Linus Torvalds unexpectedly declared himself Satoshi Nakamoto, the father of bitcoin. Perhaps he was just joking. Most likely, it just wasn’t him.
Bitcoin has found another father
It all started when a modified copy of the Linux kernel source code appeared on GitHub. The modified line of code read: “Name = I am Satoshi.”
Source: Github
This puzzled many members of the crypto community, but few took this statement seriously as a full-fledged claim that it was Torvalds who really invented the world’s first cryptocurrency – bitcoin. Some suggested that the famous programmer was just joking. The majority considered that it was not Torvalds at all.
Indeed, although this GitHub repository is owned by the creator of Linux, other users can fork it and make their own changes to it. Shortly before this, another branch had already appeared in the Torvalds repository. Its author – also allegedly on behalf of Torvalds – said that Linux “sucks” and urged everyone to remove this OS and switch to Windows XP.
Torvalds is a worthy candidate
Meanwhile, despite such a GitHub vulnerability, many could agree that Torvalds could be considered a worthy candidate for the role of the creator of the world’s first cryptocurrency – Satoshi Nakamoto.
So, Torvalds is a well-known open source programmer who invented Git, a ledger that has a number of similarities to the blockchain. Accordingly, many rumors attributed to him the authorship of bitcoin as a professional with a range of necessary knowledge, technical skills and experience.
However, there is no official confirmation that it was Torvalds who could invent bitcoin. He himself never showed interest in cryptocurrencies and did not make any public statements regarding BTC, and also always shied away from answering the question of whether he is Satoshi.
Meanwhile, the debate about who is hiding under the mask of Satoshi does not subside. Members of the crypto community are actively offering their candidacies, and some themselves declare themselves the true creator of BTC. So, one of the most infamous self-proclaimed Nakamoto is Craig Wright.
Probably, after years of intrigue, the crypto community will gladly accept any Satoshi, if only he can provide convincing evidence of the authenticity of his identity.
