The British football club Real Bedford will begin accepting payments for their goods and services in Bitcoin cryptocurrency.
The team has partnered with OpenNode, a financial company that processes payments in digital assets. Real Bedford will sell tickets for matches and souvenirs for bitcoins, as well as accept donations in coins.
In the near future, the club will pay salaries in bitcoins to players and team staff. To ensure the safety of digital assets, Real Bedford has signed a contract with custody services provider Casa. The firm will provide the team with access to a cold bitcoin wallet with multisig functionality.
We are pleased to announce that OpenNode has joined as a sponsor for the @realbedford project.
OpenNode will be powering the #bitcoin aspects of our team, from accepting #bitcoin payments to tipping services.
Thanks @OpenNode gang ☠️⚽️🚀 https://t.co/Uh92aUtAGE

Real Bedford followed the example of the Australian baseball club Perth Heath, which switched to bitcoin in November 2021. The team chose the coin as the default currency and, together with OpenNode, began accepting payment in digital assets, as well as paying employees with bitcoin.
Real Bedford played in amateur football last season but are already aiming for promotion to the English Premier League. How exactly the club’s management is going to accomplish this ambitious task remains a mystery.
