Ukrainian police, during a joint investigation with law enforcement officers in the United States and Great Britain, identified suspects in organizing attacks using ransomware.
According to law enforcement officers, the attackers distributed the encryption virus through spam mailings, and they demanded cryptocurrency for decrypting the data.
More than 50 companies suffered from the group’s activities. The amount of damage exceeded $1 million.
The suspects also provided services for spoofing users’ IP addresses.
One of the defendants in the case was already wanted in other states for stealing customer data from British banks.
Recall that in October, the Ukrainian cyber police, together with Europol, Interpol, the FBI and law enforcement officers of France, identified the attackers behind the spread of the encryption virus.
