On December 14, the bitcoin hash rate updated its all-time high above 215 Eh / s (exahashes), according to research firm Glassnode. The indicator rose sharply after falling to 170 Eh / s last week, which was triggered by internet outages and unrest in Kazakhstan. The country accounts for 18% of the world’s bitcoin mining capacity.
At the beginning of December 2021, the hashrate of the first cryptocurrency recovered to the values that were observed before the introduction of a complete ban on cryptocurrency mining in China. The Chinese provinces began to introduce the first mining bans at the end of May last year.
In July 2021, the State Power Corporation of China officially issued a requirement for all its customers not to use electricity to mine any cryptocurrencies in all regions of the country. The migration of miners from China provoked the largest drop in the hash rate in the history of bitcoin. In July last year, the indicator reached a minimum since 2019 at around 84 Eh / s (a decrease of 53% from the maximum). Since then, it has grown by 156%.
