PeckShield analysts announced a fraud on 7 platforms at once to attract investment in crypto projects
7 crowdsale platforms performed exit scams at once. PeckShield analysts reported this on their Twitter page. According to preliminary information, IDO services turned out to be fraudulent projects:
- gotEM.
- HarmonyPad.
- HbarPad.
- MetaPlay.
- Electrinity.
- MicroPee.
- QuizDrop.
According to PeckShield’s calculations, the total amount of thefts was over 5,744 WBNB (~ $ 2.6 million). All stolen cryptocurrency was converted to WBNB and laundered through the Tornado.cash mixer. As users noticed, all of the above sites have been deployed on the Binance Smart Chain.
Most of the IDOs listed above have the same message on their Twitter page, allegedly about the MetaPlay hack, as well as the “loss” of all contracts related to the project. Some IDO sites also have tens of thousands of subscribers.
“The hat is complete, the most finished project in which I participated, organized quarterly on *****, but there is a lot to learn …”, – wrote one of the victims under the nickname @DemkoBogdan.
Who could be behind the fraud of 7 projects at once remains unknown. We will remind, earlier analysts of Chainalysis calculated that in 2021 fraudsters stole $ 7.7 billion in cryptocurrency. The activity of fraudsters has increased significantly compared to 2020. Thus, the amount of money stolen in 2021 exceeds the figure for 2020 by more than 80%.
However, the volume is still below the record 2019. Then the scammers were able to “earn” almost $ 10 billion. The Russian Ponzi pyramid – Finiko – made a significant contribution to the embezzlement bank. According to preliminary estimates, scammers from Kazan were able to earn more than $ 1.1 billion.
