Residents of El Salvador inexplicably lose bitcoins in the state-owned cryptocurrency wallet Chivo, New Scientist reports.
The publication referred to Twitter user El Comisionado, who documented 50 such cases, totaling over $ 96,220.
After documenting 50 cases of @chivowallet scam the amount is $ 96,223.83

“The government does not admit mistakes and is silent. But this is one of the things that people demand an answer to. Some have been waiting for months to get their money back, ”said El Comisionado.
The problems were confirmed to the publication by Zaira Navas of the El Salvador police and a bitcoin enthusiast with the pseudonym Rogzy.
“I don’t think Chivo is safe and no one can verify it because the application code is not open source,” Rogzy said.
Few use the wallet, he said, because most “don’t know how it works.”
President Nayyib Bukele said earlier that the number of Chivo users has reached 2.1 million. The total population of the country is about 6.5 million.
He also acknowledged the technical problems with the Chivo wallet implementation. The claims were mainly related to the accrual and receipt of $ 30 in bitcoin, which the government paid for registration in the application.
We will remind, on September 7, 2021 in El Salvador came into force the law on the recognition of bitcoin as an official means of payment along with the US dollar.
After the bill was passed in June, the opposition called it unconstitutional. In August, rallies against the legalization of cryptocurrency were held in the country.
