The problem of underground mining in Russia has sharply escalated over the past two years. Now power engineers are calling on the state to help them in providing energy supply to enterprises and the population.
Clandestine manners have increased the load on the electricity grid, and there is a danger of disrupting energy supplies in many regions. After the mining ban in China, the Irkutsk region has become one of the centers of underground crypto mining in the Russian Federation.
Governor Igor Kobzev even called on Moscow to help the region. The State Duma proposed to establish special tariffs for miners, but the problem has not yet been resolved.
Irkutskenergo press secretary Evgenia Romanova appealed to miners to stop cryptocurrency mining, as the load on the power grid has already reached its peak values. For the second year in a row, Irkutsk power engineers have recorded a record growth in energy consumption in the region.
In the winter, miners are more active and launch a large number of farms, as the equipment is easier to cool. The main threat is that cryptocurrency is mined 24 hours a day – even more than some industrial enterprises. Romanova urged residents of the region to reduce the load on the network and turn off at least part of the equipment.
