Unique NFT tokens have taken over the crypto market this year, and analysts are asking a logical question – which collection turned out to be the most popular and expensive in this sector?
When calculating the return on an NFT collection, most analysts calculate the average price. For example, the first CryptoKitty was sold in December 2017 at an average price of $ 3.24 per unit. On the first day, 105 CryptoKitty were created and various collectors spent a total of $ 340.63 on them. CryptoKitty is currently trading at an average price of $ 256.99 per share, so the average return on these tokens over time is over 7800%.
So which of the most popular collections – CryptoKitty, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) or CryptoPunks has made the most money to investors since 2017? Cointelegraph analysts have an answer to this burning question.
The eighty-page report says the average price is unreliable as several successful sales of high-priced NFTs severely skew the data.
For example, Larva Labs’ most expensive CryptoPunk # 7523 COVID Alien sold for $ 11.7 million in June 2021. This is why CryptoPunks have yielded over 700,000% all time – several NFTs from this collection have been sold for millions of dollars. At the same time, the very first CryptoPunks were distributed almost free of charge, so technically, the profitability of this collection over the entire period of its existence is enormous. For the analysis, the specialists took the price on the first day of trading – June 23, 2017, when 19 CryptoPunks were sold for a total of $ 1,020.3.
Cointelegraph’s Top NFT Collections Profitability
Canadian concept artist and blogger Kimberly Parker, on the other hand, thinks the average price better reflects how much people are actually paying for NFT in the marketplace. And more importantly, how much money can artists expect to sell their NFTs if collectors love their content.
Most often, investments in NFT are calculated according to the indicator of the minimum token price. The lowest price is the lowest NFT price in the collection on the open market. For example, the minimum price for a single token from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection is currently 38 ETH, or roughly $ 125,000 on the OpenSea marketplace. This means that such a token can sell for $ 125,000, but not less. After Visa paid $ 150,000 for CryptoPunk in August 2021, the collection’s minimum token price jumped 280% to $ 425,000.
