The Polkadot community has approved the upgrade of the Shell parachain to Statemint on the mainnet.
After passing two stakeholder referenda, @Polkadot sent its first cross-chain messages, upgrading Shell to Statemint. It just created its first blocks as Polkadot’s first common good parachain.https://t.co/8mIhi1iZ3h

Shell has been operating on the Kusama Experimental Network since May 2021 at the Statemine level.
Following the referendum, Polkadot sent two messages to parachain with instructions to upgrade to Statemint. The first one wrote some value into the store to create the “genesis” state.
The second message authorized an update to the runtime, including all functionality for creating and managing fungible and non-fungible assets.
The team recommended a “conservative” feature deployment with significant restrictions on the use of parachain. Initially, users will not be able to teleport DOT tokens to the network.
The developers recommended to keep this limitation until the connection of the dispute resolution protocol, which guarantees security.
A number of other features will become available after “sufficient testing” on the Kusama network.
“With the launch of Statemint and five other parachains, the network is poised for the next wave of innovation in Web 3 applications,” it said.
Recall that the winners of five auctions for parachain slots were projects Acala, Moonbeam, Astar, Parallel Finance and Clover Finance.
