The administration of the ninth largest city in Tennessee, Jackson plans to provide residents with the option of converting wages into cryptocurrency.
A tender has been announced in the city among the companies that will be responsible for the exchange of cryptocurrencies.
According to Mayor Scott Konger, the acceptance of proposals will begin on December 22, their consideration will continue until February.
Conger explained that the city cannot store bitcoins on its balance sheet due to legal restrictions, for this reason a processing company will be involved.
The move is aimed at diversifying payments, according to Konger, considered one of the most crypto-friendly US mayors.
In addition, the administration wants to attract companies to the city that are ready to receive payments in bitcoins.
In October, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez allowed civil servants to receive their salaries in bitcoins, as he seeks to make the city the cryptocurrency capital of the United States and even the world.
Konger, in turn, believes that it is somewhat more difficult to implement such a plan in a small town, but this is not a reason to abandon ambitious plans:
Why not Jackson? Why can’t we do something that could neutralize the current economic system?
For the first time, plans to switch to cryptocurrency were announced in early April, so the process is not going too fast.
