It is devoted to real XRP holders: how the Ripple company, XRP cryptocurrency, XRP ledger (XRP Ledger) are interconnected, and what RippleNet is.
It should start in 2004, when the Canadian Ryan Fugerr developed a prototype RippleNet… Its system was called RipplePay and was a new way of making online payments over the Internet. Therefore, we can say that RippleNet is older than Bitcoin. The creator of bitcoin, who is known to the world as Satoshi Nakamoto, began, according to him, to develop it in 2007, and presented it to the world in 2008.
In 2011, Jed McCaleb, the creator of the then popular file-sharing network eDonkey and the notorious Mt.Gox exchange, drew attention to the technology.
XRP Ledger (XRP Ledger) was built in 2011 – early 2012 Jed McCaleb, Arthur Britto and David Schwartz… However, XRP Ledger was originally called “Ripple” due to the nature of the technology.
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is now a decentralized public blockchain operated by independent members of the international XRP community, of which Ripple is an active member.
In September 2012, Jed and Arthur, along with Chris Larsen, formed the company, which at the time was called OpenCoin Inc., and decided to give her 80 billion XRP in exchange for the development of RippleNet (or simply Ripple) on the XRP Ledger. In September 2013, the company is renamed Ripple Labs, led by CEO Chris Larsen. The company ultimately shortened its own name to “Ripple”.
RippleNet Is a payment platform owned by Ripple. which is a real-time gross settlement system running on top of the XRP Ledger.
XRP Is an independent digital asset, the own (native) cryptocurrency XRP Ledger, it was created later than the registry itself in 2-12. XRP’s birthday is considered June 2, 2012. The very first ledger contained 100 billion XRP and it is impossible to create a new XRP.
For their own asset embedded in the ledger, the creators chose the ticker “XRP” from the term “ripple credits” and “ripples” and the X prefix for non-national currencies in the ISO 4217 standard. The name “XRP” was used to denote an asset in all contexts to avoid confusion with similar names for technology and company. And only in May 2018, the community chose a new familiar logo for XRP.
The smallest indivisible unit – one millionth XRP – was called the “drop”, and before that it was called “jed” after Jed McCaleb.
In light of this information, the constant confusion arising in the application of these concepts is understandable.
