The State Duma likes to restrict, prohibit and threaten with criminal penalties. Another concern of the people’s representatives about the crypto market was expressed by Andrei Lugovoi.
In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he threatened cryptocurrency miners with criminal and administrative liability for illegal connections to power grids and the need to pay taxes on activities:
If mining is a legal activity, they will ask the appropriate electricity and grid companies before connecting. If they are denied, but they will still connect, then they will violate both the administrative and criminal codes. Illegal miners will have to be imprisoned.
According to the deputy, it is necessary to monitor cryptocurrency mining. In addition to introducing a special electricity tariff for them, the servant of the people proposed introducing a tax on mining profits:
They produced bitcoin – then they look at what rate, calculate how much electricity they spent, what other costs they incurred (for salaries and other payments). Subtract it all – you get a profit.
Earlier, at the end of October, the governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev complained to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak about miners, whose actions, according to the governor, lead to a sharp increase in energy consumption. This in turn causes power outages.
As a result, in early December, the regional resource sales company Irkutskenergosbyt, through the courts, obtained the right to set special tariffs for mining farms equipped in private houses.
