Scammers started creating hundreds of fake Instagram pages of real influencers to steal cryptocurrencies
Instagram has been flooded with hundreds of fake influencer accounts to steal cryptocurrencies. It is reported by CNBC with reference to the victims of fraudulent schemes. One of these victims turned out to be a “crypto evangelist” Jason Sullman. According to him, over the past couple of years, more than 500 fraudulent clones of his page have been divorced on Instagram.

In addition, as Sullman says, many fake pages are actively developing advertising cryptocurrency services. In some cases, attackers even tag Sullman’s relatives in posts for greater authenticity.
According to him, Instagram technical support reacts to incidents selectively. Sometimes it takes several hours, sometimes a couple of days, and sometimes there is no answer at all. Often Sallman himself has to deal with the victims of fraudulent clones.
“I was threatened, saying ‘I will kill you, beat you.’ They write something like “I know where you live” and stuff like that, ”Sallman said in an interview with CNBC.
One of the victims of the fake clones of Sallman’s page stated in a media interview that the phishing investment scheme resulted in lost $ 20,000. However, Sullman is not the only one whose page the scammers have targeted. CNBC found out that a dozen other Instagram users have fraudulent copies. In some cases, the number of clones’ subscribers reaches 15,000.

Moreover, Instagram tech support often even refuses to block fake accounts. This is happening despite clear signs of fraud, CNBC said. Read about how scammers impersonate MetaMask technical support in a special article by the BeInCrypto editorial staff.
