It looks like the male dominance of the cryptocurrency industry may end soon.

According to cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp, in the first three quarters of 2021, the number of women investing in cryptocurrency increased by 198% compared to the same period in 2020. Thanks to this rapid pace, women are finally able to create gender balance in an industry that was previously considered predominantly male.

The largest percentage of new investors are women between the ages of 30 and 35. Curiously, the 55-60 age group has become the most successful female investors and traders. They tend to invest large amounts and earn higher returns.

The main reason for this influx is probably the proliferation of information about cryptocurrencies. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many countries to enter quarantines, which has forced citizens to stay at home for a long time. Of course, people were forced to look for new income opportunities, as many were left without work. In addition, they understand that fiat currencies are depreciating catastrophically.

However, it will take some time to achieve balance. According to a report titled Financial Tribes You Need to Know, 66% of investors in the cryptocurrency industry are still men, with about 55% of them under 35.

Nevertheless, progress is evident. In 2018, men made up 91% of the Bitcoin community, according to CoinDance. Interestingly, women enter the cryptocurrency industry not only as investors and traders, but also as employees. According to CoinMarketCap, the number of female employees in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry increased by 43% in 2020.

The main reason for this influx is the increase in opportunities for online education, which ensures the availability of knowledge and avoids standard barriers. Leah Jonas, head of partnerships at the Celsius Network, told Business Insider that most women refuse education because they are uncomfortable attending offline events and seminars where the majority of participants are men.

Nonetheless, prominent women in the crypto industry believe that the female gender has tremendous potential to revolutionize innovation and determine the direction of future growth. All they have to do is overcome their fears and doubts.
