The Ethereum Domain Name Service (ENS) has registered a new address, “tobi.eth”, which is owned by billionaire Tobias “Toby” Litke, CEO of Shopify. This Canadian company has become a leader in the development of software for online retailers and retail stores with a million customer base.
The ENS service was created as a decentralized DNS prototype, attracting a client with an open source project to create an alternative identification in the Ethereum ecosystem.
Domain names with the “eth” extension replace the wallet digits and serve as the site name. Toby Litke this year already showed interest in the Ethereum ecosystem at the time of the strong growth of the cryptocurrency market in the spring. The Shopify executive tweeted a specific question about smart contracts and how the DeFi industry works, and has given a lot of attention to gathering feedback on application performance issues.
In the ensuing discussion with the developers, Litke then admitted his desire to create a user-friendly platform that would greatly simplify the launch of smart contracts for retailers. In this case, millions of Shopify customers would be able to migrate to the Ethereum blockchain as an easy-to-use option for the software already installed.
Since the morning, the cryptocurrency market has not yet reacted in any way to the acquisition of the tobi.eth domain name for 30 ETH. The ENS service recently acquired its own service token, the rate of which has not changed direction either, now it is in a local downtrend.
