“Cryptocurrency” and “bitcoin” failed to enter the top three in the ranking of the most popular words of 2021 among social media users. This was reported by the specialists of the Brand Analytics company.
Analysts analyzed 874 billion words in 52.2 billion Russian-language posts published on various social media from January 2020 to November 2021. Only terms were taken into account, the mention of which had grown at least twice as compared to the previous year.
The first four places in the ranking were taken by words related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The word for 2021 in Russian-language social networks was “vaccination” – it was mentioned in 33.5 million messages. This is almost six times more likely than in 2020.
It is followed by “vaccine” – 27.1 million posts, “vaccination” – 25.2 mentions and “covid” – 18.7 publications. They began to write about each of the terms 2.5 times more often compared to last year.
The fifth place was taken by “cryptocurrency” with 14.6 million messages, surpassing the “satellite” with 13.4 million. The number of posts on this topic increased by 3.7 times.
In seventh place was “bitcoin” with a fourfold growth and 10 million mentions.
Also in the Top 10 included “migrant”, “state services” and “Taliban” (the movement is recognized as a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
Recall that in November, Brand Analytics analysts named the most popular cryptocurrencies among Russian social media users.
