An underground mining farm was identified in Moscow, which consumed electricity for 500,000 rubles a day. The miners were illegally connected to the Rosseti line.

As the representative of the Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor’s Office (MITP) Ekaterina Korotkova told TASS agency, unauthorized connection to power grids and illegal occupation of a land plot for the operation of mining equipment was revealed during the audit.

“It was found that the equipment was illegally connected to the cable line owned by PJSC Rosseti Moscow Region. The cost of the volume of illegally consumed electricity for powering computer equipment amounted to more than 500,000 rubles per day, “Korotkova emphasized.

Details have not yet been disclosed, however, given that the criminal case was opened by the transport prosecutor’s office, and the transport police were involved in the investigation, it looks like a mining farm was found in one of the transportation companies. Considering the amount of energy consumed, the number of ASIC miners on an underground farm could reach 2,000.

At the moment, prosecutors have opened a criminal case under article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing property damage by deception or abuse of trust). The case is under the personal control of the Northern Transport Prosecutor.

Earlier, the governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev said that over the past year, electricity consumption among the population has grown by 159%. He blames illegal miners for this, since the equipment for mining cryptocurrencies consumes a lot of energy.
